This site is the culmination of my 10 year adventure to photograph and document all (??) of Connecticuts naturally occuring waterfalls. By naturally occuring, I mean, I'm not really interested man-made dams, old mills, or level-control dams which proliferate throughout New England.

It's taken me this long because of the natural tendancy for draught, or near- draught conditions in Connecticut which have been occuring in the summertime. I've been told that these summer draughts are only a recent development since I moved here ten years ago but it has made this project that much more difficult as many of the waterfalls are only "seansonal".

While this site serves to display the images I've taken through this project, I've also designed it to serve as a tool for fellow (and lady) photographers to aide them in capturing thier own images of these beautiful, naturally occuring wonders.

The Top Ten and How I Ranked the Waterfalls

The most difficult thing I encountered in creating this site is trying to decide how to rank all of the waterfalls and, especially, how to select the Top Ten.

If you do a Google search for Connecticut waterfalls, you'll see each site ranking the waterfalls by thier own specific priority: height, flow, etc. I decided to list the waterfalls, in my opinion, by how scenic they look. Completely subjective and as a photographer, I wanted this site to list them according to how they look and thier photographic appeal.

Also, I'm not really interested in including man-made waterfalls, dams, and flood-control devices unless they have significant photographic appeal as does, for example, ???. What you'll see on this site is a subjective ranking of Connecticut waterfalls by thier photographic appeal in addition to a few tips on how to photograph waterfalls and panoramas as well as equipment recommendations.

All waterfalls are not the same; some are more photogenic than others, some really make you work hard (hiking) to get to them, some have good access (parking) while others make you park in some less- than-desirable locations. All of these facets are reflected in a simple scoring system to give you a better idea of the effort required to get to and shoot each waterfall:

Photogenics: 1= (A dud, it's there but don't get excited )

10 = (Bring a camera! The Best Looking Available)

Hike Effort:

Dist. - 1= (Short walk, no problem)

10 = (More than 1 mile, bring water and protein bar)

Diff. - 1= (Easiest effort)

10= (Think twice / EMT's Should Be Readily Available)

Parking: 1= (May Have To Park on the Side of the Road and LOCK the Car)

10 = Great, On-Site Parking)
